    2. Avoid language that makes you sound like a conspiracy theorist:
    – Find a way to indicate that something is likely to happen instead of using phrases like “It seems to me.”
    3. If one has a source to refute, it is needed to present the argument made by the worthy opponent clearly.
    4. When refuting a source, establish your position clearly so that the audience can recognize the purpose of your paper.

    • Avoid using parentheses when doing in- text citations (Sorry, I am one of them. I have fixed them.)

Professor Hodges would like us to complete his course evaluation on banner. Do not sound like a crank. Follow the link to my essay for an example on how to properly reference sources. Publications get italics and article titles get put in quotation marks. “Bullers wrongly claims….” I need to improve the content of my rebuttal.

  17. The Portfolio is due Thursday, class is mandatory. All the items need to be accounted for, but revision can be done even after submitting the assignment.

    Writing from our own point view is significantly weaker then just stating what the argument or evidence suggest. It’s better to state how the claims should make the reader feel, or the affect they should have on others.

    Let readers make their own conclusions. Plant the ideas into the minds of the reader so they can draw the same conclusions as the writer.

    -When refuting a claim, make sure to accurately provide the authors POV and then why you disagree.

    -continue to ask for feedback as long as you ask a specific question
    -make the boldest claim you can with the smallest amount of info you can prove
    -when you have claims to make that you can only suggest are true, your reader may not think it’s true.
    -don’t say “it seems to me.” Your personal opinion may sound like a lunatic
    – “seems to me” evidence isn’t worth much. Still make the point though. There’s a least a possibility of fraud.

    -make sure references are in alphabetical order. They don’t have to be numbered
    -make sure include how you disagree with the refutation. “It is valid but wrong.”
