Add and Analyze Sources

Your White Paper is a work in progress. For assignment P03, you’ll add sources to your original White Paper post and analyze them as you did for the first installment. You can (and probably should) also review and revise the entries you made for your first five sources. You’ll have completed this assignment when you’ve added 5 new useful (preferably academic) sources and described their content and value. Details in The Bullets below, plus an overview of the entire White Paper process.
- P01: White Paper First Draft (MON FEB 05)
- A formal version of your research proposal including your hypothesis and your expectations of what you’ll attempt to prove or persuade.
- Your first 5 sources, preferably academic

- P03: White Paper Second Draft (MON FEB 19)
- Revised proposal. DO NOT START A NEW POST. Update your White Paper to reflect your developing proposal. There is no need to save the old White Paper. You don’t need to tell me what you’ve changed. Just update your First Draft document to reflect your current research and plan.
- Your first 10 sources, preferably academic. If your first five sources are still relevant, you can keep them. If they no longer suit your needs, ditch them in favor of new sources. Your White Paper is a living work in progress.
- The Essential Content of the article for each source. These are Purposeful Summaries of the article that force you to synthesize the content into your own language (a crucial pre-writing step that will serve you well when you craft your Short Arguments). Consider revising earlier versions as you add new ones.
- What it Proves for each source. Whether it proves what you “want it to” or not, accurately describe the evidentiary value of your sources.
- What I’m Still Looking For. Add a paragraph or a list to indicate what you’re seeking and haven’t found. Your professor loves to help and will take up the challenge to assist you if he knows what you need.
- Current State of my Research. One paragraph of Self-Evaluation. How’s it going? Are you confident? What will it take to make you feel more confident?
- P07: White Paper Third Draft (MON MAR 19)
- Revised proposal. DO NOT START A NEW POST. This may have changed several times but should always reflect your current thinking.
- Your first 15 sources, preferably academic. Your source list by mid-March might be entirely different from your original collection. Keep only those that you need.
- The Essential Content of the article for each source.
- What it Proves for each source.
- What I’m Still Looking For. Keep this up to date.
- Current State of my Research. Keep this up to date.
- Organizational sections. As it gets bigger, your White Paper will get unwieldy. Your professor’s White Paper is loosely organized into: Sources for Definition, Causal Sources, Rebuttal Sources, Counterintuitive Notes, and other sections as needed. Used well, these sections are a helpful pre-writing tool to prepare you for the Short Arguments (and their Rewrites) and for your final Research Position Paper (which combines all your research and pre-writing efforts into one last outcome).
- Do not start a new post for this assignment.
- Update your original White Paper post.
- Add new sources and descriptions as detailed in The Bullets above.
