- A primary caretaker with a negative attitude increases the risk that her child will grow up hostile towards others. It’s not just aggression toward others that results from child abuse. A shocking amount of children raised by abusive parents harm themselves. The reason for the negative behavior is because the children don’t learn appropriate techniques for handling life’s disappointments. Without these coping skills, children are most likely to act “inappropriately” than those who developed more reasonable approaches. The effect of poor parenting as reported by Dr. Geoffrey Dahmer in “The Bully Papers,” is that parents get the children they deserve.
